German automotive manufacturing company, Continental AG, has reportedly become official tyre partner of the renowned Tour de France cycling race. As part of the sponsorship deal, all the official support vehicles, including cars, and motorcycles at the Tour de France, will run on Continental tyres.
General Director Tour de France, Christian Prudhomme, and Member of the Executive Board of Continental AG, Nikolai Setzer, officially confirmed the sponsorship deal on behalf of both companies.
Commenting on the collaboration Setzer said that becoming a part of Tour de France was a logical step in Continental’s commitment to the development and production of high-tech tyres for racing bikes, such as tyres that are used in Tour de France.
Continental is seeking to highlight its tyre manufacturing expertise in a unique racing environment that attracts global attention, and Tour de France is an event where the focus is not only on safety but also on setting benchmark standards in terms of rolling resistance and weight.
Prudhomme added that it was an honor to welcome Continental as a sponsor of the Tour de France. The fact that Continental wished to be associated with what is billed as the world’s biggest bicycle race, highlights Amaury Sport Organisation’s commitment to safety at bicycle races, and Continental’s drive and research into developing more efficient tyres.
In the 2016 edition of Tour de France, as many as nine teams used Continental tyres, including Tour winner Chris Froome.
