The management of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), has urged consumers within its network to desist from paying its staffs for installation of the prepaid meters in the state.
EKEDC stressed that since the meter is free, the installation must also be free except that there are other materials,Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) and cables, that are needed which primarily should be provided by the consumer
The General Manager, EKEDC, Godwin Idemudia, who made the appeal in an interview with newsmen in Lagos, hinted that the company has been inundated with complaints from consumers that its personnel often collect money for installation.
“So, if they request for money before installing the meter, please ignore them. Some consumers who bribe our staff for bypassing lines that connect their freezers, air-conditioners and other electrical gadgets should know that it is absolutely illegal. If you are caught during the routine check by our staff, you will be fined for bypassing and charged to court,” he said.
Meanwhile, the General Manager urged its patrons to desist from bribing staff of its company on official assignment, noting that it is wrong for staff to demand money before clearing electricity faults.
“They are being paid for. Consumers should be aware that it is also wrong to connive with our staff not to settle electricity bills appropriately. Consumers should report any EKEDC staff that demands for money to the nearest EKEDC office for proper action”.
