The Nigerian Police has stated that it has put strategic measures in place to tackle the wave of traffic robberies in the country especially in Lagos state, assuring that the law enforcement agency would go all out to ensure a crime free yuletide for residents.
According to the law enforcement agency, it would increase personnel presence across the state including deploying patrol vehicles at strategic locations, urging residents not to panic, but see the development as a move to ensure their safety on the road always.
Speaking in Lagos on plans for the Yuletide season, Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgar, in a statement signed by the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Olarinde Famous-Cole, on Tuesday, hinted that over 28 traffic robbery suspects have been arrested last Friday and will soon be charged to court.
“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to announce to members of the public that, they should not be unduly concerned with the increased presence of policemen across the state, including the location of patrol vehicles at strategic traditional points.
“These measures are meant to checkmate the activities of hoodlums and other social vices especially on routes with traffic snares occasioned by construction works and port operation issues, especially the Oshodi/Gbagada Expressway, Apapa, Ilupeju, Mile 2, Apongbon and other strategic locations within the State,” Edgal said.
He therefore urged Lagosians to go about their normal business activities and disregard any unfounded and mischievous claims of robberies on major highways in the State.
However, Edgal appealed to members of the public to partner effectively with the police by giving credible information and report strange or suspicious movement within their area.
