Atleast one person dead, three classrooms and four vehicles have been confirmed burnt when students of Community Grammar School in Olodo, Oyo State protested.
Following the protest, the State Government, on Monday, ordered that the school be shut immediately to prevent further breakdown of law and order.
The Guild gathered that the protest started which started last Thursday has snowballed into arson and disruption of activities within the community.
To prevent more damage, the state government, in a statement by Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Ibironke Fatoki, disclosed that the state has inaugurated a six-man administrative investigative panel to examine the immediate and remote causes of the incident.
She added that the panel was expected to submit its report within seven working days, to ensure prompt prosecution of culprits.
According to her, the school was shut over the incident of arson that occurred in the premises on Friday during a mob action by some hoodlums and miscreants after a violent protest by junior secondary school students the day before.
“During the mayhem, a block of 3 classrooms and four cars were burnt during the protest, these were after one life was lost during the two days of mayhem.”
