Following Nigerian government commitment towards combating deadly diseases in the country, a Korean drug producing company, Shin Poong Pharmaceutical Company, has produced anti-malaria drug, capable of fighting malaria specifically, and as well help in reducing malaria-induced ailments in Nigeria.
It disclosed that the anti-malaria drug, Pyramax, produced with upgraded chemical composition, had strong effect on malaria, and that the company’s focus was to assist in dealing with the endemic situation in the country.
The Chief Executive Officer, Shin Poong Pharmaceutical Company, Wonjune Chang, said that the production of the anti-malaria drugs occurred after various clinical tests by relevant government agencies and that his company would be partnering Nigerian pharmaceutical company for marketing of the drug.
Briefing journalists at an event to mark World Malaria Day (WMD), in Abuja, on Friday, Wonjune stated that outcome of the clinically test proved that the drug would be effective for treatment of malaria.
Besides, the Managing Director, Dovizia Pharmaceutical Services, Oladipupo Ojo, said the uniqueness of the drug was that it had chemical contents that attacked malaria within few hours of administration.
”It is the first time that we are having new anti malaria drug that contains new molecules that is being exposed to the parasite. Pyramax is new in both composition and regiment usage.
“Unlike in conventional Artemisinin-based Combination Therapy (ACT) that is used twice daily, Pyramax is used once daily with little or no side effect on the user,” he said.
However, the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, commended effort of the company on the fight against malaria in the country, promising that government would continue to support all good course that have positive impact on Nigeria’s health system.
