As part of effort to eradicate poverty and perpetuate crime of streets in Nigeria, the Kano State Government has hinted on it concluded arrangement on introduction of youth empowerment initiate and acquisition center where indigenes, particularly young people, could obtain various skills that would earn them living.
It was gathered that the the proposed youth empowerment tagged “Matasa Madogara”, would serve as capacity building for young ones from the state.
The Kano State Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, stated that the state was ready to fulfill its campaign promises by not leaving any stone untouched and that through the disclosed empowerment initiative, the his government would various lives within the state.
Through a statement released yesterday by his Director General, Media and Communications, Salihu Yakasaiunder, after inaugurating a newly elected executives of the state chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria, (NYCN), in Kano, the governor stated that under the programme, strategic areas of youth skills and entrepreneurship development would be identified and appropriate investment be made, as part of effort to enable the young build their capacity for more positive contribution to the society.
He stated that at the moment, work was on going on at a multi billion Naira skills acquisition center project, at Kwanar Gurjiya community in Kano city, pointing out that when it becomes fully operational, thousands of youths would be taken off the streets and trained to become skilled citizens.
“It is unfortunate to see scores of youths hawking wares along the streets or at road junctions, thereby exposing their lives to danger, even though they want to earn legally”.
“Equally worrisome is the fact that many youths throng motor parks daily to earn a living, while others have small businesses which need a little push to become better income generating endeavors”, he lamented
Ganduje therefore urged the National Youth Council of Nigeria to partner with his administration in making sure that youths in Kano embrace self employment opportunities capable of improving their well-being.
He, however, felicitated with the youth body for conducting election democratically, announcing that, a contestant for post of chairmanship of organization, Adamu Gini, who voluntarily withdrew from the race, was appointed as Senior Special Assistant on Youth Empowerment, as a result of maturity exhibited.
On his part, the newly inaugurated chairman of the Kano state council, Comrade Kabiru Lakwaya, assured to lead by example, just as he appealed to the state government to facilitate erection of a permanent secretariat for the council.
