A High Court sitting in Lafia, Nasarawa State has sentenced a man, John Yakubu to death by hanging for beheading a seven-year old boy, Samuel Danjuma in 2012.
As learnt, Yakuub was arrested alongside one Ishaya Daklung by the Department for State Security Service (DSS) after he was allegedly found possessing a fresh head of a boy concealed in a polythene bag.
The late Danjuma who was beheaded was allegedly killed by Yakubu who lured the boy to a stream in Agwan Galadima in the state’s Local Government and drowned him before beheading him.
He said the convict was arrested alongside one Ishaya Daklung by operatives of the Department for State Security Service (DSS) on July 22, 2012.
The judge said Yakubu was also found in possession of a fresh head of a boy, concealed in a polythene bag.
It was learnt that after the DSS arrested the suspect, the corpse of the boy was deposited at Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in the state in 2012.
Sentencing the suspect alongside his complice on Wednesday, the high court judge, James Abundaga, said the court found Yakubu guilty of culpable homicide punishable by death, based on his confessional statement.
The judge who sentenced Yakubu to death by hanging said that the death sentence was in line with Section 221 of the penal code.
The Guild gathered that, Yakubu’s accomplice was however sentenced to four years in prison with hard labour for being in possession of human head, adding that his sentence was in line with Section 219 of the penal code.
While addressing news men after the Judgment, prosecution counsel, Mohammed Aboki said that he is happy as justice was served accordingly.
