Court remands man in prison for allegedly slapping special marshals

An Ile-Ife Magistrate Court sitting in Osun State has remanded a man, Adegoke Adekanmi, 36, for allegedly assaulting two special marshals, Omopo Idowu and Oderinde Zacheus, by slapping them.

Adekanmi was said to have made an attempt in kidnapping the two marshals’ committed the alleged offence on 14th of November at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife.

As learnt, he was prosecuted on a five-count charge bordering on an attempt  to commit felony, obstruction, assault, slapping and kidnapping of  special marshals.

Speaking before court on Wenesday, the Prosecutor, sergeant Sunday Osanyintuyi, alleged that the accused assaulted the two marshals by slapping them while performing their lawful duties and attempted to kidnap the duo.

Osantuyi also told the court that the accused had obstructed a police officer earlier, Tajudeen Agbaje, attached to “A” Division in Ile-Ife by forcing him into  his car while performing his lawful duty.

According to him, the alleged offences contravened Sections 356 (2) and 509 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

While the defendant however, pleaded not guilty to the charges, the defence counsel, Samuel Judge, applied for the bail of his client and pledged to produce reliable sureties.

The magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, rejected the oral bail  application and ordered the defence counsel to produce a written application.

Ijiyode who adjourned the case till December  22  for hearing of the bail application, ordered the accused to be remanded at  Ile-Ife prison pending the consideration of his bail application.
