An Ekiti Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 33-year-old man, Oluwafemi Awolusi, for allegedly stealing of different phones and cash running worth thousands of Naira.
Awolusi, who was brought to the court by the police, was been prosecuted on a two-count charge of burglary and stealing.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leranmo, told the court that the accused and others still at large committed the offence recently, at No.1, new NEPA street, Omisanjana area in Ado-Ekiti.
Leranmo said that the accused and others at large on the fateful day burgled the house of one, Sidikat Hassan, carting away some valuables from her apartment.
He also alleged that the accused and others at large stole one Gionee phone valued at N15,000, small Nokia phone valued at N7,000 and a sum of N408, 000, belonging to the complainant.
Leranmo said the offences contravened sections 411 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The accused person pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The prosecutor asked a short adjournment to enable the police duplicate the case file and forward it to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
The Magistrate, Taiwo Ajibade, ordered that the accuse be remanded pending advice from the DPP’s office and adjourned the case till April 24 for further hearing.
