The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disclaimed existence of several twitter handles allegedly owned by the Governor of the Bank, Godwin Emefiele, imploring unsuspecting members of public to neglect the fake accounts.
CBN explained that the governor presently has no twitter handle, thereby implored general public to ignore messages from such twitter handles, as it was purportedly meant to defraud.
The bank alleged that the media handles were only used to impersonate Emefiele, adding that the handle bear the governor’s name, pictures, amiongs t others.
In a stamen made available to journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, CBN Corporate Communication, Acting Director, Isaac Okorafor, reiterated the bank’s statement that the governor had no twitter handle.
“We wish to inform members of the public, particularly members of the social media community that Emefiele presently has no twitter handle,” he said.
Okorafor stressed that the bank stated categorically that the fake twitter handles bear the governor’s name and fake photographs, which was targeted at misleading unsuspecting members of the public.
However, the CBN advised general public making use of social media to be wary of the fake accounts and discountenance whatever message conveyed therein.
