Praise be to Allah, Who hath sent to His Servant the Book, and hath allowed therein no Crookedness: Verse 1

(He hath made it) Straight (and Clear) in order that He may warn (the godless) of a terrible Punishment from Him, and that He may give Glad Tidings to the Believers who work righteous deeds, that they shall have a goodly Reward,. Verse 2

Wherein they shall remain for ever: Verse 3

Further, that He may warn those (also) who say, “(Allah) hath begotten a son”: Verse 4

No knowledge have they of such a thing, nor had their fathers. It is a grievous thing that issues from their mouths as a saying what they say is nothing but falsehood! Verse 5

Thou wouldst only, perchance, fret thyself to death, following after them, in grief, if they believe not in this Message. Verse 6

That which is on earth we have made but as a glittering show for the earth, in order that We may test them – as to which of them are best in conduct. Verse 7

Verily what is on earth we shall make but as dust and dry soil (without growth or herbage).Verse 8

Or dost thou reflect that the Companions of the Cave and of the Inscription were wonders among Our Sign? Verse 9

Behold, the youths betook themselves to the Cave: they said, “Our Lord! bestow on us Mercy from Thyself, and dispose of our affair for us in the right way!” Verse 10

Remembering death!

Prepared by MV

Allah Almighty says, “Every self will taste death. You will be paid your wages in full on the Day of Rising. Anyone who is distanced from the Fire and admitted to the Garden, has triumphed. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of delusion,” (3:185)

And the Almighty says, “No self knows what it will earn tomorrow and no self knows in what land it will die.” (W31:33; H31:34)

The Almighty says, “When their specified time arrives, they cannot delay it for a single hour nor can they bring it forward,” (16:61)

And the Almighty says, “O you who believe! Do not let your wealth or children divert you from the remembrance of Allah. Whoever does that is lost. Give from what We have provided for you before death comes to one of you and he says, ‘O Lord, if only you would give me a little more time so that I can give sadaqa and be one of the righteous.’ Allah will not give anyone more time, once their time has come. Allah is aware of everything you do.” (63:9-11)

The Almighty says, “Until, when death comes to one of them, he says, ‘My Lord, send me back again. so that perhaps I may act rightly regarding the things I failed to do!’ No indeed! It is just words he utters. Before them there is an interspace until the day they are raised up. Then when the Trumpet is blown, that Day there will be no family ties between them, they will not be able to question one another. Those whose scales are heavy, they are the successful. Those whose scales are light, they are the losers of their selves, remaining in Hell timelessly, forever.

The Fire will sear their faces making them grimace horribly in it, their lips drawn back from their teeth. ‘Were My Signs not recited to you and did you not deny them?’” to His words, “‘How many years did you tarry on the earth?’ They will say, ‘We tarried for a day or part of a day. Ask those able to count!’ He will say, ‘You only tarried for a little while if you did but know! Did you suppose that We created you for amusement and that you would not return to Us?’” (W23:100-116; H23:99-115)

The Almighty says, “Has the time not arrived for the hearts of those who believe to yield to the remembrance of Allah and to the Truth He has sent down, and not to be like those who were given the Book before for whom the time seemed over long so that their hearts became hard. Many of them are degenerate.” (W57:15; H57:16)

Suratul Baqarah Q 2 Verses 29- 43

In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.

26  God does not shy away from making an example of a gnat, or something above it. As for those who believe, they know that it is the Truth from their Lord. But as for those who disbelieve, they say, “What did God intend by this example?” He leads astray many thereby, and He guides many thereby, but He misleads thereby only the evildoers.

27  Those who violate God’s covenant after its confirmation, and sever what God has commanded to be joined, and commit evil on earth. These are the losers.

28  How can you deny God, when you were dead and He gave you life, then He will put you to death, then He will bring you to life, then to Him you will be returned?

29  It is He who created for you everything on earth, then turned to the heaven, and made them seven heavens. And He is aware of all things.

30  When your Lord said to the angels, “I am placing a successor on earth.” They said, “Will You place in it someone who will cause corruption in it and shed blood, while we declare Your praises and sanctify You?” He said, “I know what you do not know.”

31  And He taught Adam the names, all of them; then he presented them to the angels, and said, “Tell Me the names of these, if you are sincere.”

32  They said, “Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us. It is you who are the Knowledgeable, the Wise.”

33  He said, “O Adam, tell them their names.” And when he told them their names, He said, “Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of the heavens and the earth, and that I know what you reveal and what you conceal?”

34  And We said to the angels, “Bow down to Adam.” They bowed down, except for Satan. He refused, was arrogant, and was one of the disbelievers.

35  We said, “O Adam, inhabit the Garden, you and your spouse, and eat from it freely as you please, but do not approach this tree, lest you become wrongdoers.”

36  But Satan caused them to slip from it, and caused them to depart the state they were in. We said, “Go down, some of you enemies of one another. And you will have residence on earth, and enjoyment for a while.”

37  Then Adam received words from his Lord, so He relented towards him. He is the Relenting, the Merciful.

38  We said, “Go down from it, all of you. Yet whenever guidance comes to you from Me, then whoever follows My guidance-they have nothing to fear, nor shall they grieve.

39  But as for those who disbelieve and reject Our signs-these are the inmates of the Fire-wherein they will remain forever.”

40  O Children of Israel! Remember My blessings which I bestowed upon you, and fulfill your pledge to Me, and I will fulfill My pledge to you, and fear Me.

41  And believe in what I revealed, confirming what is with you; and do not be the first to deny it; and do not exchange My revelations for a small price; and be conscious of Me.

42  And do not mix truth with falsehood, and do not conceal the truth while you know.

43  And attend to your prayers, and practice regular charity, and kneel with those who kneel.

In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.

9  Has the story of Moses reached you?

10  When he saw a fire, he said to his family, “Stay; I have noticed a fire; Perhaps I can bring you a torch therefrom, or find some guidance by the fire.”

11  Then, when he reached it, he was called, “O Moses.

12  I—I am your Lord. Take off your shoes. You are in the sacred valley of Tuwa.

13  I have chosen you, so listen to what is revealed.

14  I—I am Allah. There is no God but I. So serve Me and practice the prayer for My remembrance.

15  The Hour is coming—but I keep it almost hidden—so that each soul will be paid for what it endeavors.

16  And do not let him who denies it and follows his desire turn you away from it, lest you fall.

17  And what is that in your right-hand, O Moses?”

18  He said, “This is my staff. I lean on it, and herd my sheep with it, and I have other uses for it.”

19  He said, “Throw it, O Moses.”

20  So he threw it—thereupon it became a moving serpent.

21  He said, “Take hold of it, and do not fear. We will restore it to its original condition.

22  And press your hand to your side; it will come out white, without a blemish—another sign.

23  That We may show you some of Our greatest signs.

24  Go to Pharaoh; He has transgressed.

Quran of the Day: Quran 2 verses 6-25

Prepared by Okikiola Qasim

In the name of Allah, the beneficient, the Merciful

6  As for those who disbelieve it is the same for them, whether you have warned them, or have not warned them they do not believe.

7  God has set a seal on their hearts and on their hearing, and over their vision is a veil. They will have a severe torment.

8  Among the people are those who say, “We believe in God and in the Last Day,” but they are not believers.

9  They seek to deceive God and those who believe, but they deceive none but themselves, though they are not aware.

10  In their hearts is sickness, and God has increased their sickness. They will have a painful punishment because of their denial.

11  And when it is said to them, “Do not make trouble on earth,” they say, “We are only reformers.”

12  In fact, they are the troublemakers, but they are not aware.

13  And when it is said to them, “Believe as the people have believed,” they say, “Shall we believe as the fools have believed?” In fact, it is they who are the fools, but they do not know.

14 And when they come across those who believe, they say, “We believe”; but when they are alone with their devils, they say, “We are with you; we were only ridiculing.”

15  It is God who ridicules them, and leaves them bewildered in their transgression.

16  Those are they who have bartered error for guidance, but their trade does not profit them, and they are not guided.

17  Their likeness is that of a person who kindled a fire; when it illuminated all around him, God took away their light, and left them in darkness, unable to see.

18  Deaf, dumb, blind. They will not return.

19  Or like a cloudburst from the sky, in which is darkness, and thunder, and lightning. They press their fingers into their ears from the thunderbolts, in fear of death. But God surrounds the disbelievers.

20  The lightning almost snatches their sight away. Whenever it illuminates for them, they walk in it; but when it grows dark over them, they stand still. Had God willed, He could have taken away their hearing and their sight. God is capable of everything.

21  O people! Worship your Lord who created you and those before you, that you may attain piety.

22  He who made the earth a habitat for you, and the sky a structure, and sends water down from the sky, and brings out fruits thereby, as a sustenance for you. Therefore, do not assign rivals to God while you know.

23  And if you are in doubt about what We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a chapter like these, and call your witnesses apart from God, if you are truthful.

24  But if you do not and you will not then beware the Fire whose fuel is people and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.

25  And give good news to those who believe and do righteous deeds; that they will have gardens beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with fruit therefrom as sustenance, they will say, “This is what we were provided with before,” and they will be given the like of it. And they will have pure spouses therein, and they will abide therein forever.

Quran of the Day: Sending Down the Ma’idah

Prepared by Okikiola Qasim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficient, the Merciful

This is the story of the Ma’idah, (dining) the name of which this Surah bears, Surat Al-Ma’idah. This is also among the favors that Allah granted His servant and Messenger, `Isa, accepting his request to send the Ma’idah down, and doing so as to clear proof and unequivocal evidence. Allah said,

((Remember) when Al-Hawaryun said…) the disciples of `Isa said,

(O `Isa, son of Maryam! Can your Lord send down to us a Ma’idah from heaven) The Ma’idah is the table that has food on it. Some scholars said that the disciples requested this table because they were poor and deprived. So they asked `Isa to supplicate to Allah to send a table of food down to them that they could eat from every day and thus be more able to perform the acts of worship.

(`Isa said: “Have Taqwa of Allah if you are indeed believers.”) `Isa answered them by saying, `Have Taqwa of Allah! And do not ask for this, for it may become a trial for you, but trust in Allah for your provisions, if you are truly believers.

(They said: “We wish to eat thereof.”) we need to eat from it,

(and to be stronger in faith,) when we witness it descending from heaven as sustenance for us,

(and to know that you have indeed told us the truth,) of your Message and our faith in you increases and also our knowledge,

(and that we ourselves be its witnesses.) testifying that it is a sign from Allah, as proof and evidence that you are a Prophet, and attesting to the truth of what you brought us,

(`Isa, son of Maryam, said: “O Allah, our Lord! Send us from heaven a table spread (with food) that there may be for us — for the first and the last of us — a festival…”) As-Suddi commented that the Ayah means, “We will take that day on which the table was sent down as a day of celebration, that we and those who come after us would consider sacred.” Sufyan Ath-Thawri said that it means, “A day of prayer.”

(and a sign from You. ) proving that You are able to do all things and to accept my supplication so that they accept what I convey to them from You,

(and provide us sustenance,) a delicious food from You that does not require any effort or hardship,

(“For You are the Best of sustainers.” Allah said: “I am going to send it down unto you, but if any of you after that disbelieves…”) by denying this sign and defying its implication, O `Isa,

(then I will punish him with a torment such as I have not inflicted on anyone among the `Alamin.) among the people of your time. Allah said in similar Ayat,

(And on the Day when the Hour will be established (it will be said to the angels): “Cause Fir’awn’s people to enter the severest torment!”) ﴿40:46﴾, and,

(Verily, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire. ) ﴿4:145﴾ Ibn Jarir said that `Abdullah bin `Amr said, “Those who will receive the severest torment on the Day of Resurrection are three: The hypocrites, those from the people of Al-Ma’idah who disbelieved in it, and the people of Fir`awn.” Ibn Abi Hatim recorded that Ibn `Abbas said, “They said to `Isa, son of Maryam, `Supplicate to Allah to send down to us from heaven, a table spread with food.’ He also said, `So the angels brought the table down containing seven fish and seven pieces of bread and placed it before them. So the last group of people ate as the first group did.” Ibn Jarir recorded that Ishaq bin `Abdullah said that the table was sent down to `Isa son of Maryam having seven pieces of bread and seven fish, and they ate from it as much as they wished. But when some of them stole food from it, saying, “It might not come down tomorrow,” the table ascended. These statements testify that the table was sent down to the Children of Israel during the time of `Isa, son of Maryam, as a result of Allah’s accepting his supplication to Him. The apparent wording of this Ayah also states so,

(Allah said: “I am going to send it down unto you…”) ﴿5:115﴾.

(116. And (remember) when Allah will say (on the Day of Resurrection): “O `Isa, son of Maryam! Did you say unto men: `Worship me and my mother as two gods besides Allah”’ He will say: “Glory be to You! It was not for me to say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, You would surely have known it. You know what is in my inner-self though I do not know what is in Yours, truly, You, only You, are the Knower of all that is hidden and unseen.”)

(117. “Never did I say to them aught except what You (Allah) did command me to say: `Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.’ And I was a witness over them while I dwelled amongst them, but when You took me ﴿up﴾, You were the Watcher over them, and You are a Witness to all things.”)

(118. “If You punish them, they are Your servants, and if You forgive them, verily You, only You are the Almighty, the All-Wise.”)

Quran of the Day: Qualities of the Qur’an

Prepared by Okikiola Qasim

Surah Yusuf Verses 1-3
In the beginning of Surat Al-Baqarah we talked about the separate letters, Allah said,

(These are the verses of the Book) in reference to the Clear Qur’an, that is plain and apparent, and explains, clarifies and makes known the unclear matters. Allah said next,

(Verily, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an in order that you may understand.)

The Arabic language is the most eloquent, plain, deep and expressive of the meanings that might arise in one’s mind. Therefore, the most honorable Book was revealed in the most honorable language, to the most honorable Prophet and Messenger, delivered by the most honorable angel, in the most honorable land on earth, and its revelation started during the most honorable month of the year, Ramadan. Therefore, the Qur’an is perfect in every respect. So Allah said,

(We relate unto you the best of stories through Our revelations unto you, of this Qur’an.)

Quran of the Day: The wisdom behind changing of the Qiblah

Prepared by Okikiola Qasim

In the Name of Allah, The Beneficence, The Merciful

Allah then said:

(And We made the Qiblah (prayer direction towards Jerusalem) which you used to face, only to test those who followed the Messenger (Muhammad) from those who would turn on their heels (i.e., disobey the Messenger). Indeed it was great (heavy, difficult) except for those whom Allah guided.)

Allah states thus: We have legislated for you, O Muhammad, facing Bayt Al-Maqdis at first and then changed it to the Ka`bah so as to find who will follow and obey you and thus face whatever you face.

(…from those who would turn on their heels.) Meaning, reverts from his religion. ﴿Allah then said:﴾

(Indeed it was great (heavy, difficult))

The Ayah indicates that changing the Qiblah from Bayt Al-Maqdis to the Ka`bah is heavy on the heart, except for whomever Allah has rightly guided their hearts, who believe in the truth of the Messenger with certainty and that whatever he was sent with is the truth without doubt. It is they who believe that Allah does what He wills, decides what He wills, commands His servants with what He wills, abrogates any of His commands that He wills, and that He has the perfect wisdom and the unequivocal proof in all this. (The attitude of the believers in this respect is) unlike those who have a disease in their hearts, to whom whenever a matter occurs, it causes doubts, just as this same matter adds faith and certainty to the believers

Quran of the Day: The Necessity of Observing Justice

Prepared By Okikiola Qasim

Allah said,

(O you who believe! Stand out firmly for Allah…) meaning, in truth for the sake of Allah, not for the sake of people or for fame,

(as just witnesses) observing justice and not transgression. It is recorded in the Two Sahihs that An-Nu`man bin Bashir said, “My father gave me a gift, but `Amrah bint Rawahah, my mother, said that she would not agree to it unless he made Allah’s Messenger as a witness to it. So, my father went to Allah’s Messenger to ask him to be a witness to his giving me the gift. Allah’s Messenger asked,

(`Have you given the like of it to everyone of your offspring’) He replied in the negative. Allah’s Messenger said,

(Have Taqwa of Allah and treat your children equally.) And said;

(I shall not be witness to injustice.) My father then returned and took back his gift.” Allah said;

(and let not the enmity and hatred of others make you avoid justice. ) The Ayah commands: Do not be carried away by your hatred for some people to avoid observing justice with them. Rather, be just with every one, whether a friend or an enemy. This is why Allah said,

(Be just: that is nearer to Taqwa) this is better than if you abandon justice in this case.
