5000 APC women hits Lagos streets, campaign against violence ahead general election

Barely nine days to the general election, no fewer than 5000 female members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has hit Lagos streets, campaigning against violence and urged everyone to participate in the electoral process.

They also urged the electorate in Lagos East Senatorial districts to cast their vote for the party’s candidate, Bayo Osinowo, and others in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the women on Thursday, Director of Women Affairs, Bayo Osinowo Campaign Organization, Mrs. Kafila Ogbara, stressed that the aim was to ensure women participate in the electoral process.

Ogbara added that while urging them to participate, they also implored them to vote Osinowo in other to influence projects that would boost development within the constituency.

“We have over five thousand women from Lagos East senatorial district on this political sensitization train. We are having a road show to sensitize, educate and mobilize women for our candidate, Osinowo, who is contesting the senatorial seat.

“There is a very vital role for women in politics. Policies that the political class make, plays a major role in our daily lives, either directly or indirectly. And it affects the society. So it is important for every woman to be part of the process. We must play our role and as mothers, what we do, is what we inculcate in our children.

“We are also warning our children to avoid any violent activities in this coming election. We are also calling on them to get their Permanent Voter Card, PVC, the distribution will last even till Saturday and Sunday.

“We are also appealing to them to be patient on Election Day when they see a long queue; they should not be disparaged or scared. They should make sure that they are not disenfranchised,” she added.

Ogbara charged the people irrespective of their professions to participate in political process, adding that “they must be politically relevant.”

Responding to a question on the strength of Osinowo in Lagos East, Ogbara boasted, “Honourable Osinowo’s capacity is evident. He has been in the House in the last sixteen years. That is why the people in the Lagos East especially the leadership have endorsed him.”
